The Fatima College Athletics Team participated at the NAAA National Cross Country Championships on Sunday, 27th November, 2011 an event that brings together the best athletic teams in the country. The race took place at The Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain from 2:00 p.m. with our athletes competing in the under-15 and junior male (15 to 20 years) categories.
The three-man under-15 team of Jonathan Casimire, Joshua Gooding, and Jonathan Pantin helped establish Fatima College as the top all-male school team in this division for the second consecutive year. Out of the eighty (80) competitors in the boys’ under-15 2k race, Jonathan Casimire and Jonathan Pantin placed amongst the top 15 finishers. Pantin (coming off his Fatima College 5k win earlier in the month) placed fifth in a time of 6 minutes and 54 seconds in a very tight finish where only nine (9) seconds separated first to fifth places. Casimire (who just completed a very successful football season) placed fifteenth (15th) in 7 minutes and 41 seconds; whilst Gooding (also a very good football player) emerged as the seventh (7th) fastest 12-year old finisher in a time of 8 minutes 42 seconds.
The junior male team comprising Brendan Hatch, Akil Olliverrie, and Moses Paul also gave a creditable account as they did battle over the grueling 6k course. Brendan (another top performer in the Fatima College 5k) was the first of the three Fatima finishers (28.53), followed by Akil (32.34) and Moses (34.40).
Congratulations to our young middle distance runners!
Next up for the Fatima College Athletics Team: National Secondary Schools 5k in Palo Seco on 15th January, 2012.
