As another year of Form 6’s graduate, new Upper six prefects, attempt to fill their shoes bringing new ideas to embody the ethos of a “prefect.” The four students directing the 2011 prefect body, namely Chad Wallace, Christian Roberts, Stephano Ollivere, and Nicholas Williams have thus far lived up to these expectations and evidence can be attested in their conceiving the idea of a Spelling B and Maths Quiz.
The first round of the Math and Spelling B competitions were held on the 14th of June 2011 at the Religion Room (also known as the Language Lab), and the Audio Visual Room respectively. The prefects wanted to decentralize from Sports dominating the activities to accumulate points for the prestigious tittle of, “House of the Year.” This allowed the students who may not have been given an opportunity to shine on Sports Day, to still contribute to their House’s success in clinging the title, announced on the Last Day of School each academic year.
No-one seemed to recall the last time that a Spelling B or Maths Quiz was held at Fatima College, emphasizing that this had not been done in the College for quite some time. Upon doing further research, it was discovered that a Form 1 Spelling B had indeed occurred some eight years ago, once again co-ordinated by the then Prefects.
There were many persons that the prefects wanted to thank for their support but the names Mr. Greene, Miss Robers, and Mr. Degale sprung swiftly for the Maths Quiz and Ms. Warick and Mr. Assue were complimented greatly for assisting with the Spelling B.
As the photos of the events show, the Spelling B was copped by Form 1: Group 2 and the Maths Quiz was conquered by Form 2-4. Thus St. Mark and St. John’s houses were given extra points to edge them closer to claiming the coveted title of “House of the Year.”
While plans are being put in place to ensure these competitions occur next year, the prefects are currently looking forward to next term where they plan to host a Talent Show as well as to expand the Public Speaking to the entire school (extending on the Form 6 version held this term).
