Gifts of Blue and Gold, a concert displaying the numerous artistic talents throughout the college, has now become a new tradition to the halls of Fatima. This production, showcasing the various groups such as the senior choir, pepper pot production’s Drama students, steel band ensemble, and incorporated students form 1’s through to 6.
The idea of Gifts of Blue and Gold originated as a fundraiser concert for the Form 5 graduation and blossomed from the mind of our school’s choir conductor and form 5 graduation organizer, Mr. K. Noel. However, the concerts have surpassed the original notion of a fundraiser and is now an annual spectacle portraying the students nurturing their God-giving talents, enjoying themselves, and showcasing a high-standard-energy-ridden production that everyone in the audience can enjoy!
Gifts of Blue and Gold 1 took place on Wednesday the 25th November 2009 in the College Hall. It consisted of two segments: the first that shone light on our student’s artistic talents and the latter, a Christmas segment. The show opened with the school’s senior choir, conducted by Mr. Noel and accompanied by Ms. M. Cumberbatch on piano. The choir was followed by acts inclusive of From 5 dance group, our steel pan ensemble and some stellar solos. The choir also displayed their ranging repetois of songs, doing an African act and a Claypso piece featuring the talented girls from Holy Name choir. This was conducted by Ms. Berment who aided greatly in preparing the girls for this show. Next, the Christmas segment, portrayed the serene, innocent, younger voices of the school’s junior choir as well as the guitar troupe. This concert was concluded by the school’s parang band and the entire caste caming on stage to wish the audience a Merry Christmas with a popular Parang song, “Christmas Comin’ yea…”
Gifts of Blue and Gold 2 promised to be an even greater show, having to raise the already high standard of quality set by its predecessor. This 2-day concert took place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of November 2010. This concert contained three segments: The first, opened with the school’s senior choir again displaying precisely why they won the title of “Best male choir in T&T” at the music festival that said year, as well as the drama group’s Pepper Pot Productions, the guitar troupe and a new cluster of solo artists inclusive of students form 6 to form 1. This segment concluded with the senior choir performing, “Waka Waka- This time for Fatima!” and displaying the college’s crest. The second act was a collaboration with the Talented Holy Name girls once again- and was an adaptation of the Broadway Musical, “In the Heights.” The final act dedicated to Christmas as always, showcased the ever-famous junior choir entertaining the crows with their over-whelming charm and innocence. Accompanied performing, was the pan ensemble and parang band. The last song saw the entire cast on stage singing, “We are the World,” bringing the audience to their feet to applaud these high-quality performances.
Gifts of Blue and Gold is now a great tradition and an asset for the Fatima calendar, thanks to the endless hours put in by Mr. Noel & Ms. Cumberbatch, who prepare the choirs, as well as organize the entire show. The other members of staff, those who help back stage, ticket sales-personnel, parents, Holy Name girls and their teachers and finally the students who make the show a complete success every year I thank you from the depths of my heart! May God bless you and may you continue to aid us in our next Gifts of Blue and Gold 3.
One can join our college’ performance in the choir or the dance group simply by speaking to Mr. Noel. Preparations for the concert begins, in the last term of the academic year prior to the concert, which takes place in November each year. See you at Gifts of Blue and Gold 3.
